Moree Solar Farm - Video

Good Morning Mayor Humphries, Councillors, traditional owners of this land, the Kamilaroi land ladies and gentleman.

It is a delight to be here in Moree and to speak with you today on this extremely sunny morning – a great day for solar energy!!!

I’d like to talk briefly about the Solar Flagships programme and then try and give you some idea of what might happen next.

The Solar Flagships Programme is a Federal Government initiative which could lead to the construction of up to four large solar power stations in Australia.

The aim of the project is to provide a foundation for solar power to play a significant role in Australia’s energy supply.

Solar power is more expensive than electricity generated from coal, but it does so without any carbon emissions. Australia has been blessed with a climate which is particularly suited to solar power and I’d like to acknowledge the role played by both the Federal and State Governments in getting us to this point.

However, the Solar Flagships programme hasn’t been without its challenges. It has forced us to things in a very compressed time frame and because there are four competing bids we have had to try and strike a balance between keeping commercially confidential information to ourselves while trying to be as open as we can be with you.

I hope we’ve managed to strike that balance and Andrea tells me that she has had a very warm reception from you and  it goes without saying that she’s encouraged me to be here to share morning tea and say a personal thanks for all your input over the prior months.
